Reclaimed Mixed Hardwood Sliding Barn Door Z Pattern Low Clearance

Jun 3, 2014

Here’s a beautiful barn door we were able to build for a customer utilizing reclaimed mixed hardwoods. We made the Z pattern door and hardware to fit the low clearance header above. Notice the hardware stops just before the ceiling. Tricky measuring to make sure we got it just right. About 1/2″ tolerances overall. Went in exactly like it was supposed to (Whew!). Slides smooth, looks great, and really changes the dynamic of the room. The wood is a mixture of hardwoods from Kentucky and Pennsylvania and the lacquer job is gorgeous. We were able to use our “dirty brush” technique to really bring out the imperfections that make this wood beautiful. One of our new favorites. The custom guides on the floor were a new design that we were playing around with and really add to the charm. They are based on a guide roller we found in an industrial building from the turn of the century. Fun project. Looking forward to many more. See the other matching door we put in this customer’s home as well. Very similar, but completely different use.
