Modern Sliding Reclaimed Barn Wood Door

Apr 19, 2013

Here’s a door we installed using a new style of contemporary stainless steel hardware we ordered in special for the customer. They also wanted to add a hardwood header plate above the door. The wood here is from our reclaimed grey hemlock barn siding. We made this door a little thinner than usual to accomodate the hardware. It is 1.5″ thick. We wrapped the door in 1/4″ steel and there’s a 1/2″ birch plywood core in the center. It’s a very sturdy, smooth sliding door that really compliments the home. On the outward facing side the siding shows more of its natural texture and we lightly lacquered it to seal it without taking away from natural patina. The reverse side is sanded slightly, tinted and lacquered to give it a deep brown soft and touchable feel.
