Mixed Hardwoods

We love most hardwoods and in most cases, barns were made with whatever woods were available to them in the nearby areas. This meant that whatever was the size they wanted and would suffice was used. In many barns there is a mix of materials used, especially the old ones. We have stacks of various hardwoods that can include but are not limited to: red oak, white oak, beech, butternut, chestnut, sassafras, maple, poplar, etc. These woods are great for creating a mix/match look of light/dark because they accept stains/dyes/etc differently between the species. It may also be possible to find enough for your project out of the wood you desire. You might just need to do a little pile diving to find it.
